How to stay safe when travelling

The Suzy Lamplugh Trust advises:

Stay alert

If you’re using an MP3 player or chatting on your mobile you won’t hear trouble approaching.

Walk tall

Walk confidently and purposefully, and try to keep at least one hand free.

Eyes to the front

Walk facing oncoming traffic to avoid kerb-crawlers.

Safety in numbers

If you think you’re being followed, or if someone is making you nervous or\r\nuncomfortable, head for the nearest shop, garage, library or pub. If they follow you in,\r\ntell a member of staff and call the police.

Make some noise
