Pippa Middleton and her man Alex Loudon were spotted this week sharing a lingering and very public kiss as they waited for a cab outside a London hotel, and whilst they were innocently papped during a sweet moment, it made us wonder when it comes to PDAs, how much is too much?
The happy equilibrium seems to be the fine line between being overly excitable and being just plain distant a balanced relationship doesnt thrive on either.
My friend Aileen was single for a good few years after college, so when she finally landed a hot, lovely bloke, Ben - at 6 ft 2 - she over-compensated for all those years as a singleton. Cue a whole lot of smooching in the queue at M&S, bottom-grabbing at the bus-stop, clinging like a koala to her man at every event. Just in case, you know, somebody didnt get it they were OFFICIALLY TOGETHER. They are still together now (so it obviously didnt do that much damage).
Us girls really arent the only ones who need to keep our PDAs in proportion; the blokes can be just as eager to show off their ladies, and no impromptu shouts of get a room! are likely to stop them.
According to askmen.com, there are only three PDA gestures that are acceptable in most settings; 1) hand-holding 2) a kiss hello/goodbye and 3) affectionate invasions of space (were thinking linking arms, arms round waist, etc! Anything else bum-grabbing, french kissing is deemed over-the-top, unnecessary and as though the couple in question have something to prove!
The Twitter-phere seems to agree. With one tweeter saying Public displays of affection make me uncomfortable. You love your other half. Were all very glad.
Look Im not saying were completely cold hearted; A young couples gesture of love captured in a fleeting public moment can make us feel all warm and fuzzy inside - if were honest the Pippa and Alex photo did provoke many an ahhh reaction at Company HQ. Maybe its just about limits...
Whats your opinion? Do you think displays of affection should be a private thing to be enjoyed between two people behind closed doors? Or do you think there's nothing wrong with letting the world know you're happy with your lover? Let us know below.
