dusseldorf eurovision image
Dusseldorf is the state capital and one of the wealthiest cities in Germany (perfect for shopping!). It has a cool modern area with amazing architecture, a huge art scene and vibrant night life. The Altstadt, the historical quarter along the Rhine, is known as the 'longest bar in the world' (sounds good to us!). While you spend the nights partying away, you can get a nice dose of culture in the day. Plus the Konigsalle is the most lavish shopping street in Western Europe!

Sightseeing

• Neanderthal - Take a short train ride to the village of Neanderthal where our long lost ancestors were found. The village has a museum that displays the original bones, tool and other artefacts. From Düsseldorf main station, take S-Bahn no 8 to Hochdahl or regional train no 28 to Neanderthal.
• Andreaskirche is the resting place of Johann Wilhelm, who reigned from 1679 to 1716. In this early baroque church, there are 22 life-size sculptures of the apostles and other biblical figures and fanciful stucco ornamentation in white and gold. The free organ concerts on Sunday afternoon are very popular.
• Schifffahrt Museum has neat multimedia exhibits chronicling Rhine shipping from Roman days until today. The 4th-floor café offers panoramic views.
