A weekend adventure, you say?

Don't mind if we do! But be warned ladies, this isn't one for the faint-hearted and you might want to leave your heels at home. Still, it IS the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Yup, the coolest theme park in the UK, Alton Towers has just opened its gates for summer 2011. Company headed up there and tried EVERYTHING, so that we can tell you exactly where to head for the biggest thrills.

In a nutshell, it's still all about Nemesis - the original and best rollercoaster. But more recent additions, like Rita - umm, 100km/ ph in 2.5 seconds, anyone? - Yes, it's quick. And yes, it will destroy your hair. But you'll want to go back for more afterwards. Then there's Th13teen - the world's first free fall drop rollercoaster (we won't tell you what the 'surprise' is on this one, you'll have to find out for yourself!) is well worth a go. The king of all terror rides though, is still Oblivion. It's true what they say, you really shouldn't look down. Really, don't.

And after all that, you'll naturally need a cocktail and some chillout time. Thankfully, the bar and restaurant offers a fun, relaxed area to regain your composure and the Alton Towers spa (Elemis is the product de jour here. We like!) is the only place to head to de-tense those shoulders. It's bliss, in the middle of all that mayhem, and definitely worth a visit, ladies.

Don't forget to pack your bikini if you want to check out Splash Landings water park. We did and we can report that the outdoor slides and pool are HEATED. No goosebumpes here, girls. All in all, whether you're looking for a new hen do experience (this has EVERYTHING for that), you're after an adventurous weekend away, celebrating a birthday or just fancy embracing your inner kid (who doesn't?), get yourself up to Alton and liven up the weekend.

Have fun! And remember, Don't. Look. Down!

Hotel stays start from just £24.75 per person per night based on 4 sharing on a B&B basis. Visit www.altontowers.com or call 0871 222 9901 to book.
