Young girls are often thought to be one of the least politically engaged groups in the UK, which may have something to do with the fact that a staggering 9 million women failed to vote in the last General Election.
In spite of this, one teenage girl is proving everyone wrong...
@twcuddleston or Abby (not her real name) is the creator of the fandom and hashtag #Milifandom which went VIRAL this week.
The 17 year old AS level student, who started this "movement against the media portrayal of Ed" is not alone and has a humungous 14.5K followers AND counting.
"We just want to change opinions so people don’t just see the media’s usual distorted portrayal of him - and actually see him for who he is. Ed is just a great guy and how many other politicians have a fandom? 0." She told Buzzfeed. "We’re just waiting for him to acknowledge it bc it’s kinda sad when he only ever sees people write mean things about him.”
Well Abby didn't have to wait long, as the potential PM himself responded to the creation of #Milifandom this very morning:
Through the creation of #Milifandom and it's related hashtag #Milibae, young girls have shown the UK how politically engaged young people ACTUALLY are and that young girls are a forced to be reckoned with- as this guy pointed out...
Others though, would argue that the BEST thing about #Milifandom is the fact that #Milifandom is EXACTLY that, a fandom, with hundreds of young girls (and guys) showing their love for the Labour party leader in a series of ingenious and hilarious posts, like THIS:
